About the Position (MAP)
Q1. During the training period, is the position considered a full-time, part-time, or internship?
A. It is a full-time assignment. For example, you'll be rotated to different companies in the world, for example, starting with accounting field in Indonesia, then corporate planning in Singapore, and then in the U.S.
Q2. Is previous experience in insurance companies preferable?
A. It is preferable but not mandatory.
Q3. If I have experience in more than one area, can we apply for more than one program (i.e., International Business and Internal Audit)?
A. In that case, perhaps you can apply to International Track! We can discuss what the best path is for you during the interview process.
Q4. Will I get a chance to work in Japan as well?
A. Yes, but we cannot guarantee that everyone will be rotated to Japan. Japan is regarded as one of the positions you can potentially work for.
Q5. Do I need to be bilingual in English and Japanese?
A. English is a required criterion, but it is not mandatory to be able to speak Japanese. But knowing Japanese is beneficial because the home office is in Japan and through learning the language, you learn the culture, which can help you gain an understanding of the history of Tokio Marine and how it got to its current state. So not mandatory but good to have.
Q6. I don't have any experience in insurance or finance. Will there be training to develop the experience needed for the position?
A. We look more for potential since international business is quite vast in the areas we cover. If you have background knowledge that's great of course, but there is training through active learning with assignments from scratch.
Q7. What are the qualities of a great candidate?
A. Within the candidate criteria, we highlight cultural adaptability and learning agility. In addition, having a highly competitive GPA, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in business, or something that can differentiate you from other candidates could be advantageous for you.
Q8. During MAP, will I be rotated in the same country or in multiple countries every 3-6 months?
A. It depends. The destination may be within the same country or a country to another country. For example, in Mustafa's case, he started off in the U.S., then Japan, and now in the U.K. in his 2nd year of MAP.
Q9. How many people are you hiring?
A. MAP has a cohort and it happens every year, but this year it will be around eight to ten people. In the previous third cohort, they had five to six. This hiring is done overseas in the U.S. or other countries, and it's 10 in total, which is a relatively small pool.
The Application/Selection Process
Q1. Do I need to submit both English and Japanese resumes?
A. Only English is enough for us!
Q2. Does this program run every year? Would I be able to apply for this program next year for the next batch?
A. You can apply for our next program in 2026 (might be in 2025).
Q3. Currently, are there any other open positions for fresh graduates aside from MAP?
A. There are no positions for Tokio Marine Holdings at the moment, but Tokio Marine Nichido & Fire hires new grads! Our group companies also have openings posted on LinkedIn, so make sure to check them out!
Q4. Will the application process involve taking aptitude or other tests in Japanese or English, and how many interviews are there expected to be? What subjects will the aptitude test consist of?
A. There will be an aptitude test in English, followed by three interviews in total. (The aptitude test is to measure personal characteristics and motivations.)
Work VISA/Permit
Q1. Will Tokio Marine sponsor for my work permit?
A. Yes, a work visa will be sponsored by the company.
Q2. What are the criterion of "legal authorization to work in the U.S."? If I get accepted into this program, will there be any support for us in the U.S. or other locations, namely accommodations (e.g., flights, houses, etc.)?
A. The company will sponsor your work permit, but please note that we will NOT be sponsoring your citizenship in the U.S. When you are in the U.S. or any other locations during the MAP, accommodations will be sponsored by the company.
Q3. What does it mean to be placed in America, and what is the support like?
A. This is our first time hiring outside of the U.S. for this cohort, so we are trying something new. If we are unable to get the U.S. visa or work permit for you, we might try to place you in a different group company in a different country but you don't have to worry about that end too much.
